Welcome to Vintage Vision, where the magic begins... I am Sarah James-Gaukroger, a commission-based artist, reworking cherished, sentimental items which are re-imagined into unique, quirky yet considered contemporary objects.

I am an award-winning maker and I studied fashion and art & design at Herefordshire College of Art and Design.  I moved to the Highlands in 2001 and am inspired by the natural beauty throughout the region.

I work intuitively with colour and energy to draw out a unique interpretation for each creation and am guided by my intuitive Reiki Master training.

Vintage Vision, in literal terms means ‘best and most typical, prime, select, superior’ and ‘the ability to see, mental image of something, foresight’.  I am inspired when I see vintage treasures and conjure a story; e.g., what the person was like who owned it, the occasions it was worn to, how many hands have held it and the many stories it could tell. 

 

Vintage Vision is unique.  It is born from sentimentality, from a desire to preserve, treasure and display items that are of the greatest sentimental value.  I believe that precious heirlooms should not be tucked away at the back of drawers, only to be taken out accidentally at random moments but that they are there to be enjoyed, prized and shared.

 

I was inspired by my love of sparkly, shiny things from a very young age, seeing drops of dew on blades of grass and being upset that I could not pick them up!  From this, my love of spangly things grew.  I particularly enjoy working with vintage beads, recycling broken necklaces, beach combing through life to find special treasures to incorporate into unique compositions.  I am also inspired by nature and all that she offers, be it shells, beach combing finds or twirling, undulating and spiralling lines.

 

It is to these beliefs that I make bespoke nests, bouquets, necklaces, tiaras, earrings and gift-ware so that you may enjoy a different take on special items.
